Drunk moped rider crashed into a truck. He had nearly 3 promille

A serious incident occurred on September 1 in the area of Pilchowice. A 48-year-old moped rider from the Lwówek district, riding a Romet, veered into the opposite lane on a curve. There, he collided with a properly driven Volvo truck.

The scale of the danger became apparent during a police check. The test showed that the 48-year-old had nearly 3 promille of alcohol in his system.

The moped rider sustained injuries and was taken by paramedics to the hospital. However, this is not the end of the officers' findings.

The police also checked the moped. It turned out that the license plate on it was not assigned to that vehicle. The Romet was secured, and a blood sample was taken from the driver for further testing.

At the scene, inspections were conducted of both the road and the vehicles involved in the incident. The officers are still clarifying the exact course and all circumstances of the accident.

In this case, the consequences could have been much more serious. The moped collided with a Volvo truck – a vehicle with a significantly greater mass. With such a difference, even a seemingly small mistake on the road can end in tragedy.

The police once again remind: alcohol and driving a vehicle is a combination that can cost health, life, and the safety of others. It's not just about cars. The ban on driving under the influence also applies to motorcycles, mopeds, and bicycles.

Alcohol slows reaction time, distorts distance and speed assessment, limits concentration, and increases the tendency to make risky decisions.
