The Prosecutor's Office in Bolesławiec will investigate the mayor's notification regarding 6.8 million PLN

It concerns decisions from 2014 to 2024 and an amount exceeding 6.8 million PLN.

A notification of suspicion of a crime, submitted on August 3 by the mayor of Luban Grzegorz Wieczorek, has been forwarded for further verification. The case, which was originally directed to Wrocław, has been transferred to the District Prosecutor's Office in Jelenia Góra. They have assigned the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Bolesławiec to handle it.

The subject of the notification includes allegations of possible abuse of power and failure to fulfill official duties in managing public funds by the former mayor of Luban, Arkadiusz Słowiński. The period under review is his term in office from 2014–2024.

According to the notification submitted by the current mayor, unfavorable annexes to contracts related to the modernization of the city infrastructure allegedly caused damage to the city amounting to over 6.8 million PLN. At this stage, however, the prosecutor's office does not determine the guilt of any individual and does not inform about the initiation of a formal investigation.

As reported by Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor's Office in Jelenia Góra: "Currently, in this matter, verification activities are being carried out regarding the crime under Article 231§1 of the Penal Code. After their completion, the prosecutor will analyze the collected materials and decide on the potential initiation of an investigation in this case."

Article 231 § 1 of the Penal Code pertains to a public official who, by exceeding their authority or failing to fulfill their duties, acts to the detriment of public or private interest. This act is punishable by up to 3 years of imprisonment.

After the verification activities are completed, the prosecutor from Bolesławiec will assess whether the collected materials justify the initiation of an investigation. A decision to refuse to initiate an investigation is also possible.
